It's almost like the simon & patrick is too bright. and they sound pretty much the same.īut i also tried out a martin 00015m, and that completely spoiled the guitars for me. simon and patrick definitely takes it for feeling. I compared some seagulls vs simon & patrick guitars at the music store today. That's changed now, but it's as if all A&L guitars are about the same quality as the S&P Songsmiths, but don't get any higher like the Woodlands, Showcase, etc. Art & Lutherie are very similar to Simon & Patrick (Songsmith)- the original distinction was that S&P mainly dealt with spruce tops, and A&L mainly dealt with cedar tops.

The Woodlands are great guitars, and I think the difference between the Woodland and Woodland Pro is that the back and sides are solid as well, and has a glossy finish as opposed to a satin finish. Showcase would be their top of the line, which is built by hand by ONE person, from selecting the wood, to finishing it, to testing it out before it gets shipped. Taking S&P as an example, they have the Songsmith as their lower line, Woodland just above that, Woodland Pro above that, something else that I forget, then the Showcase guitars. Same as Seagulls - they can range from $300 to $1000 and up. Like S&P has their own line ranging from intermediate, to top quality, handmade instruments.
It's almost as if each one is a brand within itself, and each of those brands have their own lines. There isn't REALLY a "this line is better than that line" with Godin stuff. i couldn't find a used one, and it's a bit more than i want to pay new. I remember you suggested taylors in the other acoustic thread. i'll check those out.Īrt&luthrie, seagull, simon & patrick, and godin? hah. I prefer each over the Seagull, but that doesn't mean that they're better than the Seagull.i'm going to try hit long and mcquade in burlington today. Maybe check out the Songsmiths, or if you up your budget just a little bit, the Woodlands. Still made by Godin, but to me they have a much sweeter sound, not as clunky, nicer looks, and a nice price. But maybe check out the Simon & Patrick Luthier stuff. All but the last point make the guitar fairly difficult FOR ME to play. From my experiences, Seagull guitars generally have a chunky neck, a fat body, stiff action, and an ugly headstock. The S6 is an intermediate guitar, not the entry level Chinese stuff, but not the top end $1000+ Canadian stuff. built by a Canadian with Canadian wood somewhere in Quebec. Seagull guitars are made by Godin, which is a great Canadian company.
